The starting point of our tour is Spilinga, a small town in Calabria which is located on Monte Poro, not far from Capo Vaticano. You walk on an old trail downhill along a mountain stream, where we visit the remains of a water mill with arab influence of the 18th century. During the tour many rare species of plants can be admired (oak, laurel, elm, alder, willow, poplar, strawberry trees, jujube, myrtle, blackberries, majoram, fennel, nettle, …). The Mediterranean orchids “orchis italic” deserves special attention (also calles “naked man”) as well as the tropical fern “Woodwardia Radicans” which has an extraordinary and unique beauty. Also the fauna in this areas is remarkable. Among the mammals are, the wild boar, badger, fox, marten, weasels, hedgehogs, dormice, …
