Unique beauty, fascinating geophysical characteristics (two of the islands are active volcanoes!), a wealth of history, great beaches, stunning views, and mouthwatering cuisine … Despite all this, the Aeolian Islands (Isole Eolie) remain fairly unknown out of Italy and surprisingly unspoiled outside the peak weeks of August. There are seven inhabited islands in this volcanic archipelago, each offering its own distinct atmosphere, sense of hospitality and charm.

Departure is at 7:45 am from the port of Tropea, return scheduled for 7:15 pm.

The first stop will be on the island of Vulcano (approx. 1 hour 30 min) with the possibility of taking a bath in the famous thermal muds. Then you reach Lipari (stop of approx. 2 hours 30 min.), The largest island with a large historic center, lunch break (optional). The last stop is scheduled in Stromboli (stop of about 1 hour 30 min), a perennially active volcano with black sand beaches and the picturesque village of San Vincenzo.

Transportation by modern and comfortable motorboat. The boat is divided on two floors with a terrace and spaces inside and outside, bars, bathrooms and a tour guide on board.

 

Volcano:

On the island there are thermal springs and natural muds that possess exceptional therapeutic qualities. Legend has it that the island is the home of Aeolus, god of the winds. The southernmost island of the archipelago is separated from nearby Lipari by a channel about 1.6 km wide and is made up of 4 volcanoes, one of which is still active. The bay of Levante is affected by fumarolic manifestations where the underwater thermal springs (hot waters) and natural muds (sulphurous) possess exceptional therapeutic qualities effective for rheumatism, arthropathies and circulatory diseases.

 

Lipari:

Lipari is the largest island of the Aeolian archipelago and has an area of ​​37.6 sq km. Its coasts are generally high and rocky with stacks and caves. Here a stop of about 2 hours is made to be able to visit the town with its thousand alleys and the wonderful Aeolian museum. Time for shopping and tasting the typical island cuisine. The historic center of Lipari is dominated by the Castle located on a promontory, the view offered to visitors is wonderful. The Aeolian Archaeological Museum, on the acropolis in via del Castello, is one of the most interesting of all and with its finds is the testimony of over 5000 years of island civilization. The historic center with its thousand alleys offers the possibility of shopping and tasting the typical cuisine of the islands in one of the characteristic restaurants.

 

Stromboli:

Stromboli is the only volcano in Europe and one of the few in the world in permanent eruptive activity. It emerges from the sea with two peaks from a height of 920 meters. The crater area is made up of 3 active cones, whose volcanic activity is mainly of an explosive nature, with the launch of lapilli and fragments of magma. The lava flows are channeled into a large steep basin towards the sea, called Sciara di Fuoco. (It is also possible to go trekking to climb the Stromboli crater). Most of the inhabitants (about 450), called Strombolani, live in the small town Ficogrande. The island attracted the attention of international audiences in 1949 with the film “Stromboli – Land of God”. (Starring: Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini).

Departure times are indicative and must be reconfirmed the evening before the tour as they may vary ( maximum 30 minutes ), according to the shipping company.

 

 

Conditions and cancellation terms

Excursions by ships depend on weather and sea conditions so they must always be reconfirmed 1 or 2 days before departure. If the tour should be canceled by the shipping company, you will be contacted to agree on a different date (when it was possible) or to be refunded of the amount paid.

The shipping companies reserve the right to make changes to the proposed itineraries due to the sea and weather conditions or directives from the port authorities. In case of renunciation by the customer, if the cancellation is made within 72 hours before departure, 100% of the amount paid will be refunded, otherwise the deposit paid will be retained.
