The Aeolian Islands, volcanic in origin, are considered to be amongst the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Thanks to their history and incredible natural beauty, they are absolutely magical places that everyone should see when given the opportunity!
Departure is at 07:45h from the port of Tropea, return scheduled for 19:15h.
The first stop will be on the island of Stromboli (from 09:30h – 11:00h, approx.), a perpetually active volcano with black sand beaches and the picturesque village of San Vincenzo. The Stromboli is the only volcano in Europe, and one of the few in the world, with permanent eruptive activity. It emerges from the sea with two 920 m high peaks. The crater zone is formed by three active cones, whose volcanic activity is predominantly explosive in character, with the launching of lapilli and magma fragments. The lava flow is channeled into a wide, steep descent valley towards the sea, called Sciara di Fuoco. It attracts the attention of the international public for its black-sanded beaches, with possibility to go swimming, and the picturesque village of San Vincenzo, full of quaint alleys and little shops, where you can go shopping.
After departure, you will circumnavigate the island of Stromboli to admire the famous ‘Sciara del Fuoco’.
Next, the tour reaches the island of Lipari (from 12:30h – 15:00h, approx.), the largest of the Aeolian Islands, with an area of 37,6 Km2 of a high and rocky coastline, fullof stacks and caves. There will be time for visiting the small town with its numerous narrow streets and large historical centre, dominated by the Castle located higher above, on a promontory. The panorama offered to visitors is stupendous. The Aeolian Archaeological Museum, on the acropolis in Via del Castello, is one of the most interesting attractions to visit in Lipari. There you can also go shopping and taste typical Sicilian cuisine in its small restaurants (optional). Bathing on the beach is not recommended, as you would have to hire a taxi to get to the nearest beaches and your time would be too short.
The last stop is at Vulcano (from 15:15h – 16:45h, approx.) the legendary home of the God of the Winds, Aeolus. The southernmost island of the archipelago is separated from neighbouring Lipari by a channel about 1.6 km wide and is formed by four volcanoes, one of which is still active. Its main street is lined with souvenir shops, bars, clothing and jewellery shops. A two-minute walk takes you to the Bay of Levante, which is affected by fumarolic phenomena where the underwater thermal springs (hot water) and natural mud (sulphurous) have exceptional therapeutic properties effective for rheumatism, arthropathy and circulatory ailments. Possibility of swimming in the hot thermal waters, when open to the public. Five minutes away from Porto di Levante are the Spiagge Nere (Black Beaches) where you can enjoy a swim or go for a walk barefoot along the shoreline.
