An amazing adventure: climbing one of Europe’s most active volcanoes-this is Adventure Trekking Stromboli! Experienced trekking guides ensure an unforgettable experience and take you on an adventurous but safe hike up to the crater to observe Stromboli’s eruptions in the dark.
***Following the volcano’s intense activity and unusually large explosions in 2019, access to the crater is closed. Trekking routes have been reorganized accordingly. It is now again possible to walk up to 400 m high accompanied by licensed mountain or volcanological guides to observe volcanic eruptions.
2-day program for the Stromboli trek:
Crossing
Depending on the day of the week, departure from the port of Tropea is at 7:30 a.m.-arrival to Stromboli is at 9:30 a.m. or 3:45 p.m. (passing first by the islands of Vulcano and Lipari with free time available), or in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m. (direct leg). The direct crossing takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes.
Island arrival.
After arriving on Stromboli, you will have time to check into your hotel and then head to the meeting point with the trekking guide. The climb begins around 5 p.m. (start time depends on the time of the evening sunset).
Trekking Excursion
You will walk along a nature trail up the sides of the volcano to 400 meters above sea level. After the first few minutes, the volcano will mesmerize you with its aura and the muffled sounds of explosions. Once you reach the vantage point at sunset, you will witness a breathtaking natural spectacle with a view of the crater, which has been erupting at an above-average rate since 2019. During the hike, we receive interesting geological, historical and naturalistic information from our dedicated volcano guide. The descent to the valley in the dark is also a special experience for all adventurers!
After breakfast
The island is also beautiful and ideal to explore on the second day: the small alleys of the village of St. Vincent offer photo opportunities at every turn, and you can enjoy a wonderful swim in the fine black sand volcanic beaches and bays hidden among ancient lava flows before departing for the return trip to Tropea in the late afternoon.
Return trip
Departure at 5:15 p.m. from Stromboli harbor, arrival in Tropea at 7 p.m., Vibo Marina at 7:40 p.m.
Alternatively, on some weekdays it is possible to travel by boat from Stromboli to the islands of Lipari and Vulcano in the morning (with free time on both islands). Arrival in Tropea at 7 p.m.
For round trips on Mondays or Thursdays, departure from Stromboli is at 7:45 p.m., arrival in Tropea at 11:00 p.m., with an excursion to the Sciara del Fuoco to observe volcanic eruptions in the dark from the sea.
Return to Milazzo is possible several times a day at different times.
Excursions with children:
The excursion to the Stromboli volcano is also an unforgettable experience for children. Children between the ages of 7 and 12 can participate in the hike if they are motivated, in good physical condition and used to walking.

- Tall hiking shoes (can be borrowed on site). Flashlight with spare batteries (can be borrowed on site). Backpack + windbreaker, short pants for the ascent, long pants for the descent into the sand, spare T-shirt. Water, sandwiches, chocolate or dried fruit. Hiking equipment can be rented on site for a fee.

Book conveniently on the website by clicking BOOK ONLINE. Choose the dates available in the calendar and pay a deposit by Credit Card. You will receive an e-mail confirming your reservation in a short time. On the day before the excursion, you will be able to pay the balance of your ticket in cash at our Tropea office.
At the time of final payment you will receive all the details of the tour: hotel name and address, details of the meeting point with the trekking guide, and departure and arrival times of the motorboats for the Tropea to Stromboli crossings.

Cancellations
Both trekking and boat trips are subject to weather and sea conditions and must therefore always be reconfirmed 1 to 2 days before departure. In case of cancellation due to bad weather, you will be contacted to arrange another date (if possible) or to receive a refund.
In case of cancellation by the client, the amount paid will be refunded if cancellation is made within 72 hours before departure. Otherwise, the amount paid will be retained.
