Beaches

Calabria's waters are amongst the cleanest in the Mediterranean, many of the beaches have been awarded the coveted EEC Blue Flags. 

Here is a choice of the most beautiful beaches of Tropea and its surroundings:

 

Zambrone Long, wide beach of fine, white sand. The waters are clean and shallow, safe for children and very inviting for less confident swimmers. Distance to Tropea: 5 km

 

Parghelia Several small sandy beaches, with watersports and kiosks. Predictably crowded in the summer months, they are nonetheless ideal for a swim and are conveniently near the town of Tropea.

Tropea Tropea offers magnificent panoramic views, crystalline clear water, high, rocky shorelines and a seabed of fine, white sand. There are three beautiful, sandy beaches, offering a variety of activities and beach bars.

Baia di Riaci Long sandy beach, with good watersports and beach cafes. The interesting rock formations are good for snorkelling around the bay. Distance to Tropea: 2 km

Formicoli (S. Domenica di Ricadi) Most private beach, surrounded by rock formations. A good place to relax, perfect for snorkelling.
Praia di Fuoco Probably the most beautiful bay of Capo Vaticano, with white sands lapped by turquoise waters. To reach only by boat.

Grotticelle Two stretches of sandy beach. The views from above across to the Aeolian Islands and the changing colours of the sea are truly beautiful. Distance to Tropea: 8 km

Santa Maria Overlooked only by a few hotels and private villas high up on the surrounding green hills, the wide beach slopes gently to the glittering, crystal clear waters.
